The Story of Shaquille

Shaquille had spent years trapped in bonded labor at a brick kiln in Pakistan. Like so many families we meet, he was born into slavery — a debt passed down from one generation to the next, with no end in sight.

The work was brutal: fourteen-hour days in the heat, making bricks by hand, with no hope of ever satisfying a debt that only seemed to grow. Shaquille had watched his parents and grandparents live the same life. He had every reason to believe he would too.

A cry in the darkness

One night, before doing anything, he cried out to God. As he prayed, overwhelmed with pain, he heard a voice say, "Don’t do this. I’m sending someone to free you."

Shaquille ran to his slave owner and said, "God spoke to me and told me I’m going to be set free."

It was an act of extraordinary faith — declaring freedom before freedom had come. But Shaquille believed what he had heard. And not long after, our team on the ground began the process of identifying his family, verifying their debt, and securing their legal release.

Freedom is a process

Rescue alone is not enough. Once Shaquille’s family was legally freed, we walked with them through stabilization — six months of housing and food while adults connected to work and children enrolled in school. They were placed near a local church for ongoing community and discipleship.

Today, Shaquille’s story is not just about the moment of rescue. It is about a family building a new life with dignity, stability, and long-term hope — the kind of freedom that lasts.
