In Pakistan, families can remain trapped for generations because a debt obligation is passed down. Many of the people we meet were born into slavery, often in brick kilns, and can only be released when that debt is legally satisfied. That’s where we come in.

How do people become slaves?
Most of the families we work with are trapped through generational debt bondage: a small loan taken by a parent or grandparent, often to cover an emergency, becomes a debt that is never considered "paid off" by the lender. Interest and rules are used to keep the family working — frequently in brick kilns — for years or generations to try to satisfy a debt that never shrinks.
Why don't slave owners just say no when you offer to buy their slaves' freedom?
Because the relationship is fundamentally financial. Kiln owners are focused on labor and debt, not on refusing money — a legally binding settlement that satisfies the debt in full is, to them, a transaction. Our team negotiates and documents that agreement so the release is legally recognized, not just verbal.
Aren't you supporting the slave industry by purchasing them?
We understand the concern, and we take it seriously. We're not purchasing people as property — we're satisfying an illegitimate debt so a family can be legally and permanently released, then we invest in verified government registration so they can never be re-claimed. We also work upstream through education and advocacy to reduce the debt-bondage cycle at its source.
What happens to a family once they are freed?
Freedom is only the first step. Every family is registered with the government as free citizens, then receives up to six months of housing and food while we help connect adults to sustainable jobs, enroll children in school, and integrate the family into a local church community for ongoing support.
Is there a risk that the slave owners could come and put them into slavery again?
Once the legal debt settlement and government registration are complete, families receive national ID documentation (CNIC) that formally establishes them as free citizens with legal protection. Combined with relocation support and an ongoing-monitoring process, this dramatically reduces the risk of re-enslavement.
Have you encountered any families unable to adapt to their new life and ending up back in slavery?
Transitioning out of a lifetime — sometimes generations — of bondage is genuinely difficult, which is why our model doesn't stop at the moment of legal freedom. Stabilization, employment support, schooling, and church community are all designed specifically to reduce that risk, and our team conducts ongoing follow-ups with every family we've helped.
